Caroline Barbara (Brodbeck) Peters, 91, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
She was born February 24, 1926, in rural Ackley Geneva Township, to Charles and Reka (Van Horne) Brodbeck.
She was united in marriage to Donald Peters on September 4, 1947, at the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont, Iowa. Caroline and Don were married for 64 years. Caroline and her husband farmed for many years north of Hampton and raised five children. She loved being on the farm helping milk cows or feed chickens. Her favorite part of the farm was her garden. She enjoyed growing both vegetables and flowers.
Caroline was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She also enjoyed helping young people by serving as a 4-H leader for many years.
Once they retired from farming and moved to town Caroline became the janitor at the Hampton United Methodist Church as well as other office buildings. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. Each grandchild was given a quilt that she quilted for them with love. Once the great-grandchildren came along her quilting days were over so instead, she crocheted them all a blanket.
Caroline never stopped working. If she couldn't be outside doing something then she would stay inside and bake cookies. All of her grandchildren remember her famous sugar cookies. She always had cookies waiting for when they would visit her. During the last few months, it was seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that made her smile.
Caroline is survived by her son Gary (Bev) Peters of Ames, son Keith (Joyce) Peters of Sheffield, son Roger (Kaye) Peters of Hampton, daughter Donnis (Rex) Borcherding of Latimer, daughter Donna (Carl) Watson of Creston, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, one niece and sister-in-law Delores Worden of Iowa Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents (Charles and Reka Brodbeck), husband (Donald Peters), brother (Harold Brodbeck), sister-in-law (Lila Brodbeck), and niece (Karen Brodbeck).

I will never forget Caroline or her husband Don. I met them at Leighy Grove WHEN my mom, Connie Meyer lived there. They brought a lot of laughter and my mom found her smile again. I visit Don's grave every time I come up to Hampton. Now I will visit Caroline too. I will put out a new flag on the grave for Caroline. I will be watching over your graves and keep them clean. I will leave a polished rock which means respect and love. Wendy Meyer
Caroline was a strong woman whose family always came first. She was a dedicated member of our church. I remember our visits well. She lives on in my flower garden. Her buttercups bloom there every spring🌼
