Obituary

Gladys Ann Orr, 95, of Geneva, Iowa, passed away August 24, 2010, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. She was born December 3, 1914, in Dodge Center, Minnesota, to Herman and Emma (Dohrman) Varrelmann. Gladys attended rural country schools. She married Harold Orr on August 21, 1935, at Marion Center Parsonage in Latimer, Iowa. Gladys was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working outside with her flowers, cooking, family gatherings, and visiting with all the people in Geneva. Gladys truly believed Geneva was one of the best places to live and often commented on how much she loved living in Geneva. She also had a great compassion for the many stray cats that she fed over the years by following her father's advise growing up; if an animal was hungry, you should feed it. Gladys is survived by her son Richard (Sheryl) Orr of Warrensburg, Missouri, daughter Marlene (Mike) Schear of Charles City, grandchildren Lynn Collins, InaRae Collins, Tammy Horton, Kevin Collins, Brian Collins, Chris Schear, Linda Jochimsen, Rodney Orr, Mariea Schnor, Dennis Trimble and Laurie Sunken, several great grandchildren & great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Emma and Herman Varrelmann, husband Harold Orr, infant son Harold Duane, daughter Mavis Mutschler, grandson David Collins, two brothers, three sisters, and a great grandson.
Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Geneva Uunited Methodist Church.

It is so sad to have our love ones go to God. We all know this time will come but makes it know easier. You were one in a million and we will miss you. You are the last of our aunts and uncles on the Orr side. Give my mom and dad a hug for me, tell them I miss them but look forward to the day we will be tohether again in our Lords kingdom. Rest in peace.

No more leaving little notes for Richard and I now mom trying to prepare us for this day. You told us not to cry because you were ready to die in hopes to ease our grief. Unfortunately the pain is still there in our hearts. You loved so many people and so many loved you. You never asked for anything for yourself, but wanted others to have what they needed. You were always quick to say "thank you" or "good job" to anyone and everyone. Your quick wit brought a smile to our faces and your German temperament would sometimes bring a finger wagging or a tug on our hair if we were in trouble. We never felt unloved, we were never neglected, nor abused. Richard, Mavis, and I were truly blessed to have you as a mother. God has wrapped his arms around you now and may you rest in peace.

I never had a chance to meet Gladys, but know how deeply loved she was by so many. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family. Her spirit lives on in all of you.

To the last of my Varrelman aunts and uncles, may you all be joined now in heaven.
