Obituary

Kathie Edna (Scarborough) Calhoun, 65, went home to the Lord on January 9, 2012, at the Franklin General Hospital. She was born on December 10, 1946, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of John and Edna (Schwandt) Scarborough. Kathie graduated high school in Fort Dodge and received a Nursing Degree from Iowa Cental Community College. She was married to Orin Calhoun on May 4, 1968. They later divorced. Kathie worked as a nurse at Franklin General for seventeen years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church where she was involved in many ways, but her greatest joy was the Junior High Youth Group. Kathie enjoyed taking care of people and helping out whenever she was needed. She also enjoyed painting, sewing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Kathie is survived by two daughters, Beth Swenson (Gary Peters II) of Hampton and Polly Calhoun of Minneapolis, Minnesota, three grandchildren, Delane Calhoun, Josie Swenson and Sarah Swenson, a sister, Peggy (Greg) Danielson of Humboldt, Iowa , a brother, Glenn Scarborough of Texas, two nephews, Timothy (Amy) Danielson and John Scarborough, and many cherished friends and coworkers. She was preceded in death by her parents, her paternal and maternal grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.

I had the pleasure of working 4 years of day/night rotation with Kathie at FGH. I spent many nights listening as she proudly spoke about her girls and grandchildren as they were born and grew. Kathie had a very strong faith in God, and was always positive despite the challenges she encountered. I will never forget her contagious smile or courageous spirit. Rest in peace Kathie.

I was sorry to read of Kathie's passing. We met when they first moved to Hampton many years ago. She always had a friendly smile to share. Peace to her family.

Beth, Polly and family; Kathie was a very special person. Through her work as a nurse and just through living her life, she touched many lives. Many of us are better people because we had the opportunity to know her. I was blessed to have been able to work many nights at FGH with her and to have become friends. I will miss her greatly. My deepest sympathies to you all.
