Roger Lee Bruns, 69, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. He was born October 17, 1949, in Hampton, to Fred and Violet (Schlapp) Bruns.
Roger graduated from Dumont High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on August 5, 1969, and was honorably discharged on March 10, 1971. Roger was an Army Specialist and served in Vietnam from February17, 1970, until March 9, 1971. Roger was united in marriage to Rosalie Mary Meinberg on May 30, 1979, at Blake's Grove Chapel in Ackley. To this union, three daughters were born: Jennifer, Jessica and Jerrilyn.
Roger lived on the family farm south of Dumont and farmed most of his life. He was a member of the Dumont American Legion and was affiliated with St. Peter's United Church of Christ in rural Geneva. Roger enjoyed farming, gardening and attending Farmer's Markets. He also loved animals and spending time with his family.
Roger is survived by his daughter Jennifer Bruns of Hampton, daughter Jessica (Chris) Moessner of Vinton, daughter Jerrilyn (Ricky) Freerks of Aredale; grandchildren Abby and Annabelle Moessner of Vinton and Jaden, Galen, Taylor and Bently Freerks of Aredale; brothers Russell (Norah) Bruns of Waverly and Keith Bruns of Ackley. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Rosalie.
Roger was a good neighbor to my friend Les & I enjoyed seeing him when I was up there. No more pain, both mind & body, rest in peace
Roger was a very kind and sweet man. He was a good friend and neighbor. We will miss our visits with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
