Kelly Joseph Murray, 53, of Latimer, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 20, 2020, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. He was born July 7, 1967, in Osage, to Raymond J. and Trisha Ann (Henke) Murray.
Kelly graduated from Hampton High School, class of 1985. He was united in marriage to Shelli Steenblock in August of 1997, and to this union, two daughters were born: Liby and Liah. He and Shelli parted ways. Kelly worked at Morts, Inc. in Latimer. He was a member of the Latimer Fire Department, where his friends became part of his family. Being on the department was one of his favorite past times and he always cherished the memories they made together. He was affiliated with Immanuel United Church of Christ. Kelly was a family man; he teased hard and loved harder. He enjoyed playing with his nieces and nephews at family gatherings. When it came to his daughters, Kelly couldn't be more proud, he would talk about them to anyone who would listen. He enjoyed hunting with his daughter Liah. They also attended lots of races together along with family friends. He and his daughter Liby enjoyed going on long drives and talking together. Kelly loved cooking, especially grilling. He had a knack for barbecuing and baking.
Kelly is survived by his daughters Liby Murray of Hampton and Liah Murray of Latimer; stepchildren Levi Schlagel of Dows, Luis Schlagel of Latimer, and Lexi (Brady) Goble of Pine River, Minnesota; parents Ray and Trish Murray of Hampton; brothers Shaun (Deb) Murray of Ankeny, Chad Murray of Hampton, and Jayme Murray of Hampton; step grandchildren Avery and Azlyn Goble; nieces and nephews Lacie (Josh) Jensen, Liam and Irelynd Murray, Hannah, Tate and Alec Murray; and great nieces Anna and Allie Jensen.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and three uncles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Kelly's family.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2020, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2020, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. The Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton is assisting Kelly's family.
